After working hundreds (yes, that many) of live events for brands like Prada, Louis Vuitton, Nordstrom, and Jo Malone London, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful personalized experiences can be at brand activations.

That’s where live event calligraphy and hand engraving comes in. These personalized moments turn a simple gift into an interactive experience that guests genuinely remember. If you’re considering live personalization for an event, here’s what brands should know about how these activations work, why they’re so effective, and why you should hire me for your next event!

Why Live Personalization Works So Well

When guests watch their item being engraved or hand lettered in real time, the personalization experience becomes immersed into the event itself. Watching an item being personalized in real time adds an element of craftsmanship that guests rarely see anymore, which makes the experience feel even more special.

Guest Experience

The whole reason a brand puts together an activation is for the guest experience and memorability. You want to bring the brand to life, create interactive activities, and create emotional and long-lasting impressions on guests. This is one of the most important things with a brand activation, as you want your guests to understand more about the brand and the importance of it.

Interactive Experiences

Having interactive experiences for your guests and clients allows them to fully immerse themselves into all that the brand has to offer. When I am hired to support a brand’s activation, I am there to interact with guests, personalize their items, and get them excited about the brand.

Even though I’m doing the work, when guests get to choose their personalization and watch it being made, that’s the immersion they’re getting with the experience. We’re trying to build emotional connections where guests and clients feel a part of the brand and value its mission.

Social Media & Memories

In the age of social media, brands build events that are photo-worthy and shareable. When guests take photos and share, they tag the brands and it gives the brands more social visibility. This also generates feelings of intentionality when guests can get items at the event personalized. These little details really do matter.

The Difference Between Hiring an Artist vs Hiring an Event Professional

When you hire me, you’re hiring an event professional, not just an artist. Someone who has been there done that, and knows what to expect. With over 150 events under my belt, you can be confident that you’re investing in someone who truly wants to be a partner, not another vendor, can be flexible and troubleshoot if needed.

Why This Experience Matters

Live events move quickly, and personalization stations need to keep pace without sacrificing the quality of work being executed. Experience in this environment makes a huge difference.

  1. Working within event timelines – you’re going to want someone who can manage tight timelines if needed, but also someone who can work quickly and efficiently without sacrificing quality of work
  2. Coordinating with event teams – it’s important to have someone who is comfortable talking with your team and coordinating all that is needed for an event to go smoothly
  3. Handling high guest volume – last minute RSVPs shouldn’t be a problem for an event professional, they should know how to pivot and help the guests get the most of the experience
  4. Maintaining brand presentation – when I am working with a brand, I am working WITH them and want to be an extension of their vision by maintaining brand presentation and professionalism
  5. Adapting to unexpected event changes – not to toot my own horn, but I have been told numerous times that I am flexible and a dream to work with because if things need to pivot, I’m already one step ahead

Over the years, I’ve partnered with brands across fashion, beauty, retail, and sports — including Prada, Louis Vuitton, Haus Labs, OUT Magazine, Nordstrom, Jo Malone London, the Anaheim Ducks, and the Detroit Pistons.

Each event is different, but the goal is always the same: create a seamless experience that supports the brand while giving guests something memorable to take home.

One piece of feedback I consistently hear from brand teams is that I’m flexible, easy to work with, and able to adapt quickly in fast-paced event environments.

What Makes a Successful Personalization Activation

To piggy-back off of what we discussed earlier regarding why personalization stations at activations can be so successful, is what actually makes it a success. When you hire me and we discuss details about the activation, I’m going to be a partner 100%. Lets discuss the below items so that every part of the event from start to finish goes off without a hitch.

  • Set-up Design – We can discuss where you’d like me to set up and how that might look once you have all your guests and VIPs in attendance
  • Guest Flow – We’ll chat about guest flow and how a professional event assistant might be in our best interest in order for guests to have a smooth experience – but we’ll also chat about line queue and personalization pickup
  • Material Preparation – I’ve done many events where some of the items are done in my studio, and finished on site & we can discuss something like this if your event has a lot of moving parts
  • Personalization Options – We’ll chat about event timeline and whether that allows for longer or shorter personalizations, but I’ll make sure nothing gets compromised
  • Communication – None of this can be possible without proper and timely communication

Common Questions Brands Ask Before Booking Live Engraving or Calligraphy

How many guests can be served per hour? This highly depends on the item I am personalizing, what personalization service has been chosen (engraving, calligraphy, or heat foiling), and expected guest count

What items work best for engraving? – In short, glass, metals, and stone are best

Do guests choose their own personalization? – This is something we can discuss on a call, but typically, yes! Guests can choose the personalization, colors, items, etc.,
